Contact us
Email support@squarewave.no. It helps if you tell us which device you use (iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch), which version of iLende you have, and what happens. The version is shown under Settings → About in the app.
Suggestions for the app go to the same address.
Questions and answers
How does offline work?
Open Offline Maps and tap Download New Map. Move and zoom the map until the frame covers the area you want, tap Download, give the map a name and tap Download again. The map is saved on your device and works without a signal. Downloading maps is part of iLende Pro.
Are offline maps stored permanently?
Yes. Your downloaded maps stay on the device until you delete them. When we publish new map data, iLende updates your downloaded areas to it.
What happens when I'm offline?
By default only the areas you've downloaded are shown. Places you visited recently may still work partly thanks to a cache, but there's no guarantee. If you pan outside your downloaded areas without a signal, you'll get a message that you're outside the downloaded area.
How do I get maps on Apple Watch?
Download an area in Offline Maps on your iPhone and send it to the watch from there. Your iPhone prepares the map for Apple Watch, then sends it. On the watch it works without your iPhone and without a connection, with your position and search in the area. Downloading areas is part of iLende Pro.
How do I restore my iLende Pro purchase?
iLende Pro follows your Apple Account, whether you subscribe or bought it once. On a new iPhone, iPad or Mac signed in with the same Apple Account, open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchases under About. If you have received a code, you redeem it from the purchase screen in the app on iPhone and iPad, and in the App Store on a Mac.
Is iLende Pro a subscription?
Not today: iLende Pro is a one-time purchase. From iLende 1.4.3 you choose between a yearly subscription at 14 CHF a year, with 7 days free for new subscribers, and a one-time purchase at 40 CHF that you pay once, with no yearly payments. The App Store shows the price for your country. Both work on all your Apple devices with the same Apple Account, and can be shared with up to five family members through Family Sharing. The map is free either way.
I already bought iLende Pro. Do I pay again?
No. Everyone who has already bought iLende Pro keeps it. There is nothing to do and nothing more to pay.
How do I cancel the subscription?
The subscription comes with iLende 1.4.3. It is bought and renewed through the App Store, and you cancel it there at any time: on iPhone and iPad under Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. It renews every year at the yearly price, after the free trial too, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you keep iLende Pro until the end of the period you have paid for. You request refunds from Apple. We never see your payment details.
Which countries does the map cover?
Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, with trails, huts, contour lines and hillshading in all four.
How do I change the app's language?
iLende is available in Norwegian (Bokmål), English, Swedish, Finnish and Icelandic, and follows your device's language. On iPhone and iPad you can choose a separate language for iLende under Settings → Apps → iLende → Language.
What is the difference between the map on the website and the app?
The website has the map in 2D and 3D, search and your location. The app adds waypoints and the lenses that highlight trails for hiking, gravel and mountain biking, for free. iLende Pro adds offline maps, Apple Watch, navigation and measuring.
Why is my location on the website inaccurate?
A computer without GPS estimates your location from nearby Wi-Fi networks or your IP address, and it can be off by several hundred metres. iPhone and cellular iPads have GPS; a Wi-Fi-only iPad estimates it the way a computer does. The circle around the dot shows how certain the location is.
Where does the map data come from?
From the national mapping agencies: Kartverket in Norway, Lantmäteriet in Sweden, the National Land Survey of Finland and Landmælingar Íslands in Iceland. Trails, huts and addresses also come from OpenStreetMap and from the national address registers in Norway, Finland and Iceland. We update the map when the sources change. Every source and its licence is listed on the page Map data and licences.
Can I rely on the maps?
The map can have errors, and a phone can break or run out of battery. Check the conditions before you go, and bring a paper map and compass on trips where it matters.
